Thornebrook Great American Bake Sale 2004
This bake sale is a charity event to benefit the Share Our Strength organization -- whose mission is to stop children's hunger.
- 13 million American children are at risk of hunger - that is 1 in 5 in the United States.
- Share Our Strength is a leading organization focused on raising funds to end child hunger.
- If we raise $1,000 with our bake sale, this will provide 9,000 meals and snacks to children at an after-school and/or summer nutrition program and support health and nutrition projects in our state and across the country.
- Every 4th person standing in a soup line is a child.
- The consequences of even short term periods of hunger in children are often serious and long-term.
The children of America need our help! We want to hold the largest bakesale Gainesville has ever had. We NEED bakers, buyers, and volunteers to help run the bake sale. If you would like to help, please contact us at bakesale@thornebrookvillage.com or call 352.384.3642. Here are instructions for the bakesale items.
We are also looking for sponsorship promoting participation in the event, in the form of articles, PSA's, mentions in the news programs and by DJ's during their sessions. We will give credit to the sponsors whenever and wherever possible.
Some of the other items we are looking for are:
- a banner to be placed on 43 Street,
- t-shirts for volunteers,
- a live remote or live music to turn this Bake Sale into a community event,
- and 2 - 3 organizations to sell bottled water and or soft drinks. These organizations would have the choice of using the proceeds from the sale of the water and soft drinks to fund their individual projects or to donate the proceeds to the Bake Sale.
Currently sponsoring the bakesale are:
- The Thornebrook Merchants Association, who are contributing the location, rental of the tent, tables, chairs, fans and copying costs. They have also donated 2 - $50 gift certificates good at any store in Thornebrook Village. Drawing slips will be filled out during the bake sale and drawing for these will take place after the event is complete.
- WJCB TV20 who are helping promote and advertise our Great American Bake Sale.
- The Gainesville Sun who are helping to promote and advertise our Great American Bake Sale in the printed medium.
- Alachua County Today who are also helping promote and advertise our Great American Bake Sale.
